Is electrical supply frequency critical to air compressor

by SYED AL HUSSEINI

230 volts 50 Hz air compressor connected to supply of 220 volts 60 Hz. i noticed after a period the air compressor is tripping off due to over heating, this air compressor is incorporated with a thermal switch it will open on 55c temp.

My question is the frequency of supplied voltage is causing this PROBLEM.

Hello Syed;

I'm not an authority on electrical issues, yet I do believe that an electric motor that is receiving a different voltage than specified can cause problems, and one of those is excessive heat.

I would have thought heat would be more important if you were running a 60 Hz machine at 50 Hz.

You need to talk to an electrician.

Cheers,

Bill
