Interesting dilemma - IR Air Compressor recall

I've been chasing repair parts now that I have diagnosed the issue (thanks to a helping hand from you Bill!) and I discovered that the model of IR compressor I have had a recall issued on it because 11 out of 450,000+ compressors sold had a tank failure issue.
Problem is as I tore this compressor apart I discovered that it was a quality unit, none of that paper reed valve junk. All I needed was a cylinder ring, the one I have is pitted, and a piston assembly but instead I have been pointed to pursuing a credit for a replacement IR compressor.
I have a strong feeling the replacement will not be as well built as the one I currently have.
Stuck between a rock and a hard place because I can't get parts. I am pretty sure there is nothing wrong with my tank. FYI for others - google Ingersoll Rand Air Compressor recall and you will find info on these 20+ years old units that IR is recalling.
