Ingersoll rand 5 hp has slow air build from 100 to140

by Ronnie
(Bradyville tn)

it is a Ingersoll rand 5 hp 80 gallon ss5 and is about 12 years old .

I smelt heat after it shut off and motor and compressor was extremely hot which I had never smelt before so I took motor and had checked and they replaced bearings .

Compressor will build to 100 lb and it takes 5 minutes to reach 140 shut off pressure.

I put stop watch to see how long it took .

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help.

Are you saying that both the motor and pump got hot?

Were the motor bearings actually bad?

Assuming the capacitors are good, does the motor bog down over 100psi? If so, check the check valve.

If that's good, then it sounds like maybe a blown pump gasket.

You got an actual model # for this?

Have you checked the capacitors? See that page on this site for help in so doing.
