Ingersoll Rand 375 cfm tow behind making bad air

by Mac

I have an IR 375 cfm tow behind with a Cummings diesel I use for sandblasting.

I run the air for breathing through charcoal filters before it gets to the helmet.

The compressor has a lot of blow by, but runs well and has plenty of power.

Recently the air started making my eyes water and had an oily kind of smell, I using it immediately.

I replaced the oil air separator filter and things seemed to get better, but the issues returned, though not as bad.

Anyone have an idea what might be causing the bad air?

If you're lucky, changing the screw oil might help, if it's been in there awhile.

Otherwise, could be the screw is shot - or maybe more likely, the bearing.

If you don't find anything else, and you have plenty of air, you add more / better filters until something breaks...

Good luck.
