ingersoll 80 gallon 5hp 1phase trips breaker

by jay

Compressor builds 80psi then flips breaker.

I can restart and it'll build to 110psi and trip again.

It's different each time.

Motor is a brand new 5hp Leeson. The original motor blew so I swapped it. Compressor is wired to a 15amp 2pole breaker. Whats the problem?

The power is OK.

Sounds like you need a higher ratio.

You're almost at 5HP from the start. Might explain why the previous motor went bad, too.

That's assuming the pump is OK.

I think maybe this is supposed to have a 3Phase 7.5 HP motor, so the motor sheave should be smaller.

A square d 2 pole 15amp. 5ft of #12mc ran to a box with maybe 8ft of 10 ran straight to the motor.

Max psi is 175.

I have it turned down thoug. External caps on top of motor. 14.2 amps and starts to rise as it pumps.

What's it supposed to go to? 125?

How long and what gauge are the wires from panel to motor?

Does the motor have internal or external caps?

What kind of breaker on the panel?

Have you measured the current as it pumps up?
