Information about hose and fittings

I have a 2008 RV with an air compressor built in. I need a hose with a quick disconnect on one end and a std tire inflation end on the other, to fill my 85 psi tires. It must be 35 to 40 ft in length.

Hi Jerry. Thanks for your input. Your email address is on the list to be notified when the new ebook The Home Compressor is ready, and you'll have first crack at it at a reduced price if you wish to order it then.

My advice is that if it's to be stored in an RV, then you'll want to keep weight down.

Consider visiting your DIY store and purchase the length you need of 1/4" polyethylene tube. It's cheap, rolls up fairly well, and since it's so common, is easily replaceable if you need to do so.

Next option is fairly low cost PVC hose. Hose is measured on the I.D., so a 1/4" hose, which is all you'll need, will actually be quite a bit larger in diameter than a 1/4".

Next up is PVC/RVC (rubber vinyl compound) which offers the most flexibility (particularly at cold temperatures) and burst and abrasion resistance.

The tire valve is available in the compressed air section of your DIY store as well.

At the same time, pick up a kit of couplers and connectors so that you've got enough of them of the same type to make all your connections. You may, depending on the style of air line you choose, opt for "instant fittings" for the tube, or barbed fittings for the hose. Discuss what else you'll need to put it all together with the store clerk. Good luck with that! :-)

Unfortunately, different manufacturers of couplers and connectors build their own designs, and they often do not interchange.

Cheers,

Bill
