If you wipe off the housing completely, and then watch, over time I expect you will see compressor oil wicking through a seal somewhere.

Is it a lot of oil? I ask, because mine leaks too, but it's not enough to justify the aggro in taking the darn thing apart, and trying to find a replacement seal.

I check to make sure the oil is topped up EVERY TIME I use my compressor, and yes, I leave it parked over a piece of cardboard to catch the drips.

So, how big is your oil leak problem? :-)

Cheers,

Bill

My Sears, 1988, 5hp, 20 gal comp leaking big time

The oil is comming from under the compressor somewhere. Leaking enough to warrant a repair. My question is if it's worth repairing or even able to get parts to do the repair?

A 5HP compressors is a pretty good investment, and, depending on the source of the leak, may be worth fixing versus buying a new compressor.

"Under the compressor somewhere" doesn't isolate the source of the oil. You need to find out where it is leaking from, and if there are bolts adjacent to the leak site, make sure they are tight.

What is leaking?
