Harbor Freight compresosr - spewing oil from the oil vent plug (looks like a shower coming out)

by Gary
(Naples, fl)

My new HF 2Hp 8 Gal. 125 PSI Air compressor is shooting out oil from the oil plug vent hole (2 tiny holes on the bottom of plug, 1 on top). It is definatly not overfilled with oil. It's ok when I first crank it up (no spewing), but after a couple minutes, when the engine starts to heat up, here comes the oil. Sounds to me like this is a major problem with new air compressors. Please help, mt fiance is tired on slipping on the floor.

Gary from Naples

P.S. Where would you suggest I take it as there are no close Harbor Freights close to me.

IF the sump is being pressurized due to piston seal leaks, that might cause it. Glad to hear that it is not an overfilled sump, as that is often the case.

See the repairs page for listings for repair depots. If none that are listed there near you, see you local listings for compressor repair. though I thought there was a Harbor Freight outlet almost everywhere in Florida.

Cheers,

Bill

94667 Harbor Freight will not build pressure above 40PSI - I fixed it!

by mike
(colorado)

I purchased the 3hp 21 gallon air compressor from Harbor Freight (model#94667).

Great air compressor for the money, when it works.

I have had two of these that have failed with the same problem.

After about a year the compressor motor will start running but will not build pressure above 40PSI.

The first time this happened I was still within my 1 year extended warranty period so I just replaced it.

The second time I was OOW so decided to try to fix it.

Called tech support...they sold me a replacement pressure switch and unloader valve. Neither of these fixed the problem. The original pressure switch is no longer available so they sent me a universal pressure (p/n 11535)switch that required some modifications to get connected properly (plus no instructions or wiring diagrams which was maddening).

Thinking that I had nothing to lose I tore it apart to see if the problem might be inside the head.

It was...the head gasket was blown. I carefully removed the old gasket material, cleaned all of the parts, made new gaskets and reassembled. It now works as good as new....noisy.

Thanks for that, Mike.

94355 - pressure switch on/off switch

by Monty
(Sandusky, OH)

The on/off switch will not turn unit on. Have taken off shroud and can manually activate the unit. At this point I don't know if the unit would shut-off at required pressure, but can manually activate unit with a screw driver. Is pressure switch bad? If so, where can I obtain and the cost of such a switch. Thanks for you assistance. Monty
