My husky binds up as soon as I turn it on. Even with the drain valve open. with the drain closed, the compressor stops, but the motor spins the belt. Please help

If you, with compressor off and tank empty and the tank drain now closed, remove the line where it connects to the tank check valve, and then turn the compressor on, will the compressor run and is it pushing air out the line? In other words, can you stop the air flow with your finger in a glove? Or, if you block that line with your finger in a glove, does the compressor pump bind?

If the compressor doesn't bind up with the tube blocked by your finger, and the air pressure keeps blowing your finger off the tube, then I would surmise that your tank check valve is blocking air from getting into the tank.

If, however, by blocking that line with your finger, if the compressor starts to bind up, I would guess that you've got a problem with the pump itself, and I'd start by checking out the valves.

It only slows down with the valve open, but stops with it closed.

Not if it does it with the drain open.

Sounds like the belt is just too loose. Perhaps it's too big, or the motor or pump has moved.

Yes I can turn by hand, and it is a new belt. I am wondering if the check valve is stuck open causing back pressure!

Can you turn the pump by hand?

How's the belt tension?
