Help With Hydraulic brake

by Stan Martin
(Elsmere, Ky)

I developed a clamp system using an Ambush bushing. Ambush makes a split bushing that, when hydraulic pressure is applied, clamps around a shaft acting as a brake. I put these on a shaft and am trying to use a air over hydraulic cylinder to do the clamping. In the past I used a air over hydraulic pump connected directly to the clamp and it worked great. Most of the applications for this clamp system do not have hydraulics available so I thought I could simply run and airline to a air over hydraulic cylinder, run the hydraulic to the clamp from the opposite end of the cylinder and it would work the same. I'm not using any control valves just line in and line out.

125 psi In
I'm getting no movement from the cylinder and no oil pressure coming out the hydraulic end.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

Stan, happy to post your question, though I am not into hydraulics per se, and don't pretend to know enough to advise you. I also do want to point out that there are many companies out there that manufacture compressed air driven brakes for applications like yours, and I'm wondering why you are reinventing the wheel, so to speak?

Cheers,

Bill

Raci, you request is posted. Good luck. By the way, did you mean "soap stone" as opposed to "soap store"?.

Cheers,

Bill

Tire air attachment

How do you attach the tire air attachment?

Not a lot to go on, here. Are you asking about connecting the tire fill device to the tire, or the tire fill device to the air line?

Assuming it is the latter, attach a connector to your tire fill device where shown in the photo I uploaded, and then the connector goes into the coupler on your air line.

Not sure about couplers and connectors? Read about them on this site too.

Cheers,

Bill
