How do I deal with the 3 phase.

I just purchased from a fella at an auction what I thought was a nice looking air compressor for $150. He informed me he did not have 240 v in his garage to run it,so he has to let it go.

Was'nt until I unloaded it in my shop when I realized the speedaire compressor was a 3 phase. Also, after looking it over carefully there is no pipe from the compressor to the tank. Anyway, I am very or somewhat familiar with regular house current but am set back by the industial wiring of 3 phase. Niether am I sure of what the electrical box is between the pressure switch and the motor. The motor has 9 wires all labeled from T1 - T9 with an additional green ground wire. T1, T2 and T3 along withh the ground wire are wired thru 4 ft of conduit to a box (to be mounted on wall) with an external switch or reset button. Three terminals in this box are labeled T1, T2 and T3 and the three wires are attached with the same labeling. Not sure of the purpose of this box. Another 4' conduit leaves this box and goes to the pressure switch with only 2 wires (both are red). I am trying to figure out what to do. Should I purchase single phase motor and switch out or purchase a phase converter? If I go with the converter how does all of this get wired?
Thanks in advance for your help,

Ray

Ray, sorry, but as far as I'm concerned, you need an industrial electrician to set up the wiring for you.

Good luck,

You need to change out the motor to a 1 phase not many homes are 3 phase most of the large buildings and some farms are 3 phase

Thank you Barry. I didn't have a clue!
