How do I build my own Compressor?

by Erving

I want to build my own compressor. You know..I want to add my own air regulator, moisture trap and air filter, and be able to use more than one airbrush "using a manifold". Do I basically put this all together using the right pipes and manifolds?

Howdy Erving, and thanks for writing in.

You want to build your own compressor. Hmmm, do you mean select an electric motor, determine the strength, design and build a compressor head...etc?

I'm not sure.

In terms of adding your own manifolds, air filters, air regulators, etc., no problem.

Adding these items won't necessarily ensure that you have enough air for your applications.

That requires calculating flow and pressure needed to the rule of thumb... 1HP of electric motor provides about 4 CFM of compressed air flow at 90 PSI.

Good luck. Let me know how I can help.
