hot air from 385 ir compressor?

by chad
(charleston sc)

I have a 385 ir compressor pull behind unit. It operates fine but the air is very hot. what causes this?

Hello Chad. Are you asking because the temperature of your compressed air has become hotter, or that you've just gotten around to it?

The air temperature coming out of a compressor tank can be quite hot, if the compressor is running a lot, and heat transfer from the metal to the air takes place, and the process of compressing the air heats the air too.

Your is a demand air compressor I believe, and it has little or not tank?

If the temperature issue is a new one, then there may be an issue. If the air coming out of the hose is getting hotter, then more attention must be paid.

IR leaks oil out of the air port - why?

by Tom Little
(San Antonio Texas)

We have an Ingersoll Rand Tow behind 185cfm air compressor that leaks oil out of the air port.

We have replaced the filter element in the air seperator and it still leaks oil out of the cylinder. Also what type of fluid should be used?

ingersoll rand 125 pull behind,1980's

motor shuts down when the air valve is opened, could this be a serious issue

James, it sure is if you are trying to use the compressed air.

When a discharge from the compressor tank occurs, the air pressure drops, this reaches a set point in the pressure switch, that flips a switch (very simple explanation, obviously) and that interfaces with the throttle on a gas compressor to rev up the engine and start compressing air.

Is your problem serious? I don't know. The little I know about gas powered compressors suggests that it's the pressure switch / throttle interface that's not working, and instead of revving up the engine, it's somehow shutting it off.

Cheers,

Bill
