honda gx160 5.5 hp gas powered air compressor

i have an old compressor that worked great then the next day it starts for a second then shuts off and wont start again unless i wait five minutes then it does the same thing (all while having it at half choke) tried multiple things. when it dies white smoke comes out the intake just a little bit

On gas powered compressors, the pressure switch is usually interlocked with the gas throttle. What you describing sounds like a throttle issue, and that's more into a mechanic's area of expertise.

Perhaps we have one reading this that can comment on this issue?

A white puff of smoke coming out of the air compressors intake port suggests that you have a valve failing to seat, or just failing.

do you think it would help solve if i disconnected the pressure switch and start it up

Not a great idea. It's the pressure switch that shuts it off to stop over-pressurization. However, for purposes of experimentation, and never leaving the unit alone until the P.S. is reconnected, give it a go. Please post and let us know how it turns out.
