Honda 8hp Rolair 7722Hk28 Pilot Unloader leaks air to fast

The pilot unloader leaks air to fast which causes the engine to quickly have to kick out of idle and start running at speed to pressurize air tanks. So basically the engine is kicking up and down every 30 seconds.I bought new pilot thought it was defective to they gave me another one same problem.I am assuming there is a problem with a part on the pump.Took top head off cleaned valves one had small portion broken off but not enough not to cover holes.Still have problem.

Bill says...Hi Jim: I am assuming this is a new problem, and that the unit worked well before?
You may want to check out the check valve. It's what keeps the air in the tank when the unloader opens, and if the check valve isn't seating correctly, then it will bleed air out of the tank, as well as off the top of the piston(s) which may be the problem.
Cheers,
Bill
