Campbell Hausfeld 200 PSI air comrpessor

Campbell Hausfeld 200 PSI air comrpessor

I have a 200 PSI HJ300101. When I first turn it on, pressure builds to 200psi and cuts off, as it should.

When in use a tool and the pressure drops, it automatically kicks on, but it will cut out before reaching 200 psi and will not turn back on for 10 or 15 minutes.

For example, when changing a tire, I will use it to loosen the bolts and I end up tightening the bolts by hand and loosening the bolts on the second tire by hand waiting, I guess, for the thing to cool down, and kick back on.

Will check page on capacitors

Hey Bill,

I will check the pages on capacitors as you suggest. I will let you know how it goes.

Thanx much!

Unloader
by: Bill

Doesn't sound like you need to replace the unloader, Clarence, and the 20 amp circuit should be really good.

OK, you need to see the page on checking capacitors on this site, and next you'll want to check the motor capacitors, located on the shell of the motor normally, near the shaft end.

A failing start or run capacitor could cause a motor overheat and thermal cutout.

Breaker Amperage
by: Clarence

Hey Bill, it,s on a 20 amp circuit breaker and there us a freezer on the same circuit. The unloader valve seems to be working but maybe I'll replace it to be sure.

Compressor amperage

A clean - no other appliance using the circuit - 15 amp is minimum in my opinion, and it's better having a 20.

HJ300101 cuts out before reaching advertised 200 psi
by: Clarence

I will check the unloader valve and the breaker amperage. I am using supplied power cord with no extension cord. It is plugged into an outlet in the garage. Not sure what else is on the same circuit, other than the lights and possibly a freezer.

Is there a minimum amperage required for the compressor?

HJ300101 cutting out
by: Bill

So Clarence, if I understand correctly, your air compressor is going off on thermal overload before the tank pressure reaches the cut out pressure, after it has run successfully up to cut out the first time?

After it cools, dump the air in the tank, start it and when it reaches the normal 200 PSI cut out, make sure the unloader valve is working.

What are you using for a power cord? Are you using any type of extension cord?

What amperage is the breaker for the circuit into which you have plugged your compressor?

What else is using power on that circuit when your compressor is running?

An ongoing compressor motor overheat is often caused by a power supply problem.
