Hitachi Model EC 10SB(SL) compressor air recovery problem

Hitachi Model EC 10SB(SL)

Hitachi Model EC 10SB(SL)

The compressor struggles to build low end pressure.

Once it builds to around 100 lbs it builds steadily to shut off at 150 psi.

Presents a problem using a automotive spray gun that requires 4.5 cfm. and 45 psi.

No worries, I'm easily confused.

If the compressor is slower than normal when building pressure, it could be a valve issue.

It could also be a run capacitor, Joe. You may need to check that too. See how on the page on this site.

I'm surprised that the cut in is below 50 PSI. That seems a bit unusual. Are you sure the pressure switch operation hasn't changed?

Electrical
by: Joe

Bill,
It's not electrical. I may have confused you when I said it struggles to build low end pressure. Once the pressure and flow drop below a certain level (below 50 lbs) it runs a long time before it picks up and builds steadily to shutoff. The tone of the motor changes once it starts to build to shutoff. It's taking the increased load from the building pressure.
It may be one of the valves on the compressor itself.

Thanks for the help!

Best regards,

Joe

Hitachi slow to compress on the low end.
by: Bill

Joe, no I am not sure why. Your Hitachi compressor is acting opposite to what I expect would normally happen if electrical issues were at fault.

With the tank empty and the compressor off, check that the tank check valve is working properly.

Otherwise, we'll have to rely on the expertise of others.

Low end compression
by: Joseph Hebda

Bill,

The model you have pictured is the correct model. Do you have an idea why it's slow to compress on the low end.

Thanks

Joe

Power supply
by: Joe

Bill,

The compressor runs on 120 VAC. No change from it's original power supply.

Hitachi pressure build

Joe, anything new about where or how you are using it?

You didn't tell me about the power supply to the compressor. Anything new about that, or same as it always was when the compressor was working properly?

Model

Hi Bill,

It's a small Hitachi Model EC 10SB(SL).

4.0 Gallon Oil Free Compressor.

I've had it for years and it's been trouble free.

Thanks Bill

Hard to offer specific information Joe when I have no idea what make or model of air compressor we are talking about.

Add a comment here with that info, and also tell me about how you are getting power to the compressor, please.

Bill
