hitachi ec12 ~ I keep having to hit the reset button for the compressor to work

I keep having to hit the reset button for the compressor to work, and it seems to be running a little hot. I admit I have it in a boxed enclosure to cut down noise though when I use it for spraying I take the lid off to cool it down. It's been in use as such for quite a while 2-3 years....

Sandy, I think your reset button is a thermal overload safety device, and I suspect either your motor is failing or your pump is increasing the load to the motor, causing an overheat.
Make sure you've got oil in the sump, if this model is oil lubed.
I'd take the motor in to a rebuild shop to get it checked out.
Cheers,
Bill

I've had two Hitachi compressors. Seems the compressor wants all of 20 amps to get going. Less than that and the reset kicks out repeatedly and/or trip the circuit breaker, especially when it's cold. My first one was stolen and silly me replaced with the same model. The second was even more temperamental until I hit the reset button for probably 15 times one morning and smoke shot out of the reset button. Quite a surprise! So, replaced with Dewalt which is much better. Using the Hatachi to hold down my garage floor. Maybe someone will steal it.
