hitachi compressor runs until PRV blows

I have a Hitachi 2HP/4 Gallon twin tank compressor. It builds pressure. My problem is it keeps running until it blows the PRV valve. The pressure drops to a point where it starts up again and the cycle repeats. Changing the pressure set point doesn't seem to change the behavior. Should I replace the regulator or is it just a problem with the seal?

This is a dangerous situation. You should correct it immediately.

Have a look at this page about pressure switches as I think this is your problem.

Cheers,

Bill

From the information on your site it sure sounds like I need to replace the pressure switch.
