Hitachi air compressor trips circuit breaker on unit

by joel

Hitachi air compressor (EC89) will build 50 psi and trip breaker on unit. let it cool for a couple of minutes and reset it, then it will build another 30psi and trips breaker again. compressor has one air outlet and is on a circuit by itself.

Hi Joel... tell me a bit about how you are getting power to your air compressor, as a comment here, please.

I ask because your compressor motor breaker is typically thermal related. That means that it trips off when the motor is becoming too hot, and to the point where the compressor motor can be damaged by that heat.

If you are underpowering your air compressor, by using an extension cord that is too small, for example, that might be the cause.

Let's rule that out before we dig deeper, OK?

Cheers,

Bill

Replace it with a new one. A mini-regulator is about $15 or so. It will save you a lot of trouble futzing with a broken regulator.

See the regulators page for some supply resources.

My Hitachi EC89 builds pressure in tank, but not at hose.

by Neville Mann

The pressure builds perfectly in the tank but it wont pressurize the hose unless you wiggle the nipple in the quick coupler. I bought it to run a Bostitch Nail gun and was told this was the tool for the job. I have managed oto drive three nails only!

Hi Neville.

It sounds to me like you are trying to mix apples and oranges, chum.

What I mean by that is that couplers like to mate with connectors of the same style, and vice versa.

When a connector is inserted into the coupler, not only does it have to "lock" inside the coupler automatically, but the coupler tip has to open the check valve that's inside the coupler, If that doesn't happen, compressed air cannot flow, though you may get a little air by wiggling the connector, and by doing that force the check valve open minutely and momentarily.

My money is on a mis-match between the connector on the hose and the coupler on the tank.

Have a look at the Couplers and Connectors pages linked from the site map for more info.

Bill
