High pitched squealing noise when compressor is running.

by Jim Steigert
(Algonquin, Illinois)

Is the squealing noise due to a worn belt or misalignment of the pulley motor. Is it simply a matter of trying to realign the pulleys. Sears no longer carries the belt for my model which is nearly 30 years old. A 2 HP, 20 gallon tank.

Thanks for any insights.

Jim

Unless you have done something to misalign it, the sheaves should't misalign on their own.

I'd guess a worn belt.

Take your old one to an automotive parts store, or a farm equipment dealer. They often have a broad range of belts in stock, and can measure and replace yours, I would expect.

Cheers,

Bill
