Vintage vane air compressor?

I was told this was a vintage vein air compressor of some type. There is an impeller on each side I assume for cooling. There is a serial number tag on it but no other identification. Living in the Pa. oilfields It may be some type of compressor used in the oilfield powerhouses. Some of the old hit and miss engines were started by air. Ive done alot of research and cant find anything like this. Any ideas?

Sorry, can't really help...

But, is that an oil reservoir on the tee with the filter?
