Help, my compressor won't turn on by itself.
?I turn it on , the tank fills to 150 PSI like its supposed to, I can use the air supply in the tank, and it will never cut back in, or turn back on, till I turn it back to off, then manually turn it back on. Then it repeats the above scenario.?
Bill answers...If by turning it off you mean flipping the switch on the pressure switch to the off position, and then turning it back on again, in so doing you are actually manually resetting the pressure switch.
In the photo above, you can see the "toggle" on a typical DIY pressure switch, this one on my compressor. Right now, the lever is set to "auto", which is equivalent to "on". By moving that lever to off, and then back to auto, I will reset the electrical contacts within the switch
After resetting it in this way, the low pressure cut in will likely work for this next cycle on the problem compressor. Then, your compressor will turn on and run until it reaches high pressure cut-out.
Once it fills the compressed air tank to capacity and turns off at the high pressure set point, will not turn it back on until you manually reset the pressure switch again.
This tells me that it is a pressure switch problem and you will need to repair or replace it.
If it is a new compressor, take it back and ask them to replace it.
If it is an older, out of warranty compressor, you will need to obtain and change out your pressure switch.
