Harbor Freight - Pressure drops well below "set regulated" pressure

If the setting at the regulator is set at 100psi, it drops to 60-70 before the motor turns on to build pressure again. Did I mention it is a Harbor Freight special?

Paul, an air regulator can only set a pressure that is at or below the tank pressure. If the tank pressure drops below the pressure setting on the regulator, the downstream pressure from the regulator will keep pace, regardless of what pressure setting the regulator is set at.

You don't indicate what you are using the air for, nor the size of your Harbor Freight air compressor. I suspect the issues is that you are using air faster than your air compressor can build it, therefore the tank pressure, and the pressure flowing past your air regulator, are dropping together.

Cheers,

Bill
