Richard, one link from the TROUBLESHOOTING page is "compressor will not start". There's a lot of info there about why this situation occurs.

Why not have a read, check out some of things that it says, and then post a comment here telling us what didn't work :-), and then maybe we can narrow it down a bit.

Cheers,

Bill

Harbor Freight # 94355 compressor leak in top of pump head

by Ron Shimek
(Austin, Tx)

Plastic lid off

Plastic lid off

Plastic lid off
Cyl head-large circle in center is leak
At the bottom of the hole is a small pinhole or porous

Harbor Freight # 94355 8 gal oiless compressor

Air leak on cyl head. Not from gasket. Looks like small hole in center of the top of the head

Ron, you must have removed the plastic shroud to get to the head?

I am looking at the manual and I don't see where you might have a leak.

Air is not bleeding out of the pressure switch at the rear, is it?

I'm wondering if the hole you refer to is the intake port? If air is huffing out that hole as the compressor is running, then you have a failing or failed intake valve.

Could you start a new thread and upload a photo showing where this hole is?

Thanks,

Bill

As you can see from the photos, my problem is in the head. I can't quite see without further disassembly exactly what the leak is, I suspect a small pinhole or porous metal leak?? It leaks continuously when running or when off. Maybe some sort of compression release for startup that has a sticking reed valve?

Ron, I too suspect a poor casting might be the problem.

Thank you for taking the time to repost, and to upload pictures.

Folks, anyone else have this type of problem with the head on a Harbor Freight Air Compressor.

Cheers,

Bill

Easy & Cheap DIY Head Leak Fix
by: PDX-DIY

I had that issue with same compressor and small head leak. Took motor off, left it on compressor, and leaned it up so head was on top and level. Throughly cleaned and then filled all head fin groves with J-B Weld. Let the J-B Weld cure for at least 3 days.
Now runs great and is going on an additional 2 years. Easy and cheap DIY fix....

J-B WELD about $3.95
Part No. 8265-S
J-B WELD is packaged in two tubes. One contains liquid steel/epoxy resin, and the other contains hardener. When mixed together it cures hard and tough as steel.

Any hope on locating a replacement head or should I just try to fight it out with H.F.?

HF is logical source, as is the local compressor rebuild shop they use, if they do so, for warranty work on their compressors. And, of course, you have posted here, so if someone can help you, I believe they will.
