GP-150 Ingersoll Rand Portable Air Compressor

What stops the compressor from compressing and removing the load off of the engine of a GP-150 Ingersoll Rand with a 4-cylinder continental engine?

Please explain the compressor unloader and how it works.

Jim, I am not finding that particular model, but it sounds like a screw type machine.

Short answer, if I'm right, is a pressure sensor tells the intake valve to close. No air in means nothing to compress means no load.

At the same time, the engine is told to go idle, usually by solenoid or air cylinder.

HTH - if not, please state your symptom, (and ideally pictures of what you have) and maybe we can help.
