Gilbarco compressor series "O" model # 2306-80570 problems

by Alex

Hello Bill...I acquired a Gilbarco 80 gal.-220 volt single stage "MAN" about 15yrs. ago from a closing service station.

It is a series "O" model # 2306-80570...serial # 56407. I know nothing else about compressors. It has run fairly well all this time without too much demand on it. Water drainp lug plugged and I started to change it and of course Murphy's Law came into play and I broke the fitting going into the bottom.

So I decided to redo all these lines. Now to the questions.1) Is this brand listed somewhere on your site? 2)It has 1/4" copper tubing running all over the top of the pump down to the electrical switches then down to the drain. Within all that is several cut off valves and an anti back flow valve. Half-way down the tank it is converted to a gal. pipe rig and that's where the corrosion came in. Is all this necessary? 3) I have changed the compressor oil a couple times and each time it seems to be pinkish..as if it has some water or moisture in it. No air bubbles or frothy substance like in an auto but the same color. Any suggestions? 4) I read where you offer a book about compressors. Would it cover basic stuff like this? and would it possibly cover my model? Thank you for your time and any input you may offer. Alex Johnson

Alex:
1) No, I don't believe this air compressor has surfaced on this site before.
2) No question that I can see here, Alex.
3) If your piston seals are worn oil will migrate past them and, with the compressed air, be forced into the tank. Pink may be the diluted oil color. Frothy may be because it being driven by compressed air. More air leak, more oil in tank and in the lines.
4) Nope, the eBook is an more, in-depth, review of general information about air compressors to help the reader better understand their air compressor. Aside from general guidelines, it is not a service manual.

I have a Gilbarco Series
by: Anonymous

I bought this compressor some years ago and it has worked fine until recently.

It doesn't build pressure A local mechanic mentioned that it probably has an issue with a "reed valve"?

I guessing that with it's age it has seen many years of hard work and now needs a rebuild. Is there a rebuild kit available, or what do I need to do to fix this work horse?

Please advise. I sure wold like to get it up and goind again.

many thanks

Gilbarco model CPV 3D108 aircompressor

by Larry Warner
(Hummelstown Pa.)

We are in the process of hooking up the compressor mentioned above.(upright 80 gal. 3HP.

First question is how it unloads. It appears the unloading mechanism is on the crankshaft opposite the pulley side. Is that what that mechanism is? How does it work?

The second question is about a device that is on a tapping about two thirds the way down the tank. It is in a tapping with a street elbow,is brass and about four inches long. It has a threaded hole in the the side 3/8" in size. What is it? It is connected by copper tubing to the pressure switch.

Any information would be appreciated

I don't have answers myself, yet I suspect that I speak for other visitors too when I say that a few photos of what you are asking about would sure help.

Hopefully someone with this Gilbarco model CPV 3D108 aircompressor can provide assistance.
