G-Force brand air compressor 2hp with 21L tank

I was given a G-Force brand air compressor 2hp with 21L tank.

It's about 5 years old, and occasionally used.

The problem is that the motor shuts itself off, after about 5 or 10 seconds.

I have to wait a moment and then push the reset button. I sprayed WD-40 into it and it ran for a while (about 2 or 3 minutes) and then I turned it off thinking that it was fixed.

When I tried again, later, it was back to its old problem. When I switch it on, it turns over 1 or 2 revolutions then stops.

Nervous to avoid resetting the motor and damaging it, I shut it off before it goes off on reset.

I sprayed Liquid Wrench into the electric motor without success.

Your advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Could be pressure switch, could be start or run capacitor.

You were given the compressor... because?

Into what did you spray the WD-40?

And, I'm thinking that spraying liquid wrench into the motor may not have been a good thing, but I'm not sure about that.

Post a response here please so we can continue trying to figure out what's going on (or not) with your air compressor.

Cheers,

Bill

fixed my problem

I had the same problem years ago. I called the factory tech line and was told many compressors have this same problem caused by bad electrical connections around the start capacitor and to redo all the connections. I rewired all the connections with new crimp connectors and solder and heat shrink tube and never had a problem again. It's been working fine now for over 8 years.

Good tip, and I suspect, it would apply to all of the lower cost, DIY type air compressors out there.

Resetting compressor

I have a compressor like yours. I had the same problem. I found the oil was low in the compressor head. Added oil and the reset problem was over.

I have the same problem, basically it is just a piece of junk. If you come up with a fix, let me know.

How do I check/test pressure switch? How do
I check/test the start or run capacitor?

I was given the compressor because the owner could not solve this "stutter problem".

I sprayed the WD-40 into the bearing areas of the electric motor.

I sprayed the liquid wrench into the same areas.

_______________

Use a multi-meter to determine if power is flowing through pressure switch.

I don't have a quick capacitor check.

If power flows through the pressure switch when the pressure in the tank is below the normal cut in pressure, then my guess is that it's the capacitor.
