Getting water in the air lines out!

by lanny forbis
(campbellsville, ky usa)

i get water through my air lines and i even got the air filter hooked up to my compressor along with a presure regulator that came with the kobalt air compressor but it still gets air through the linews.

do you have a diagram you can send me showing what all i need to get to stop this problem. i have alreay mesed up one paint job on a show car because of water.

i contacted lowes about this , this is whwere i got the compressor at and they have a chart there but every time i go out thereto copy it of they just say i am blocking the isles. i talked to lowes about his and all they could say waswe are sorry. I waited out there the other day for 38 minutes to get some answers and to see if they had a diagram for me to go buy and nobody helped me at all. they were outside playing a game called corn hole and eating. this is the second and last time this will happen. i wil pay off my lowes account and stART going to home depot where at least they help you. i was going to spend around $200.00 that day to get bigger air piping and new regulators and air filters and new hvlp spray guns but i got mad and left.

Lanny: I share your pain! Stores spend millions of dollars in advertising to get a customer to come in, and then when the customer does, the store staff doesn't provide the service needed, and the customer is gone.

If only store staff would treat customers the way they would like to be treated if they were the customer, the store experience could be a whole lot better.

Now, to the water. You need to go and read all the Water pages on this site to find out where the water comes from, and what you can do about it.

I can tell you right off that if I was painting high end automobiles, I'd have a dryer at the compressor and probably a point of use desiccant dryer before the paint gun.

As the pages will tell you, you start with inexpensive water removal solutions, and keep adding more technology until your problem is solved. There is no real "one solution" to compressor generated water, as each application has an air dryness level requirement that may be different (and more or less costly) from another.

Cheers,

Bill

Filter Drain Valve working?

by Sean
(Galena IL)

I have a beverage bottling machine with a filter that has a regulator built into the top of it. It is about ten to fifteen years old and when I run it under pressure the regulator works great but the drain valve seems to be stuck open. It bleeds of pressure readily and I fear that it may be rusted stuck or just shot due to age. What could my problem be. I am supplying 105 psi and have the reg on the filter set to supply the machine at 85 psi. Thanks.

Sean, depending on the type of filter drain it is, as you suggest, likely blocked open by debris.

Ten to fifteen years is pretty good life for a combination filter/regulator that, from reading between the lines of your post, has never been touched.

Dismantle and clean. If that works, good on you. If not, it's time for a replacement.

Cheers,

Bill

Function of air filter

by fahad
(karachi)

i want to know the function of air filter in screw compressor and what should be the material of paper

____________________

Hello Fahad...real nice to hear from Karachi!

If it's an air filter on the intake port of the air compressor, it's purpose is to remove the airborne particulates from the ingested air, this to aid the longevity of the compressor itself.

As to the paper material, I suspect each manufacturer's air intake filter will have common material, but each will likely have a unique design, too.

May I suggest that you contact the manufacturer of the compressor you have to ask for a replacement filter or the specifications of the paper itself?

Cheers,

Bill

Herry, please see the ton of info on this site about compressor water, air filters, air regulators and air lubricators.

Pretty much everything you need to know about them (at least that I can think of) is already posted on this website under the Air Components header.

If after reading these pages you have a specific question, do post it here as a comment.

Cheers, and nice to hear from you.

Bill
