Gauge is set for 30 psi; after 30 minutes it shows 10 psi?

This is on a laminator in our shop. There are three separate regulators. The one in question is for the nip roller pressure. We always keep it at 30 psi. Today I noticed it at 10 psi. After it was reset to 30 psi it later was again at 10 psi. What gives? All other gauges read normal.

Hi Gary. Good to hear from you.

Remember, a regulator can only set downstream pressure. If yours is set for 30 PSI, and the upstream pressure supply drops below that 30 PSI for some reason, then the downstream pressure will drop too.

I don't know what type of regulator you have, but they do wear out, you know. The diaphragm spring might be the issue, if yours is a diaphragm type.

What size, how much, and would it be easier to replace it? Keep the old one though. If the problem resurfaces, it's not the regulator, but something upstream that's causing your problem.

Cheers,

Bill
