GA250 high current when loading??

we have a GA250, the motor is a 250kw 435A 415v @ 50HZ motor that draws around 460A when loaded to 6.8 bar. the compressor is rated to 7.5bar.

we have dropped the loaded pressure to 6.8bar to reduce the current draw and prevent motor overload.

when unloaded it draws around 250A.

what should the current draw be when unloaded, and what could be the issue with the high current when loaded?

we have had it checked by a compressor tradesman, he tells us that everything on the compressor side is perfect..... the motor tests fine and has no bearing noise.

Hi amps

Some clarification, please.

Which exact model are we talking about here?

New or existing install?

What is the actual input voltage?

Where do these current readings come from?

The current seems way high, but it could be going to other than the drive motor. Have you checked to see where the current is going?

Atlas Copco G 250 won't load...

by Monte Rock
(Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso)

After the Electrical maintenance crew stopped it for general maintenance the machine will not load. It starts, runs but will not increase pressure to load and unload.

Have checked the unload solenoid, is off and discharges to atmosphere when starting once the fans start to run the solenoid activates and the air continues on into the air intake cylinder, So this is working electrically.

If the inlet airline is removed and connected direct to the intake cylinder (bypass the solenoid) then the compressor will pressurize and load.

Have checked the slide diaphragm (rubber plunger) it is a little sticky in its housing and have checked its position after running. It always has 5mm left to travel when pushed downwards. Not sure whether there is enough pressure from the unload solenoid to push the rubber diaphragm for correct operation or some other issue.

WD-40
by: Bill

Remembering that WD-40 is reputed to swell up Buna-N and rubber seals.

Sounds like a little wd-40 or similar on the solenoid plunger might help...

Could be a few things, but first, check that there is enough input power.
