GA18 Trips breaker after starting

by Tony Medrano
(Redlands Ca.)

Compressor status reads ok. When I start the machine It runs for 15 seconds or so and then trip the breaker. If there was an issue with the compressor it would give a trouble code correct?

blows breaker

It depends.

Is this a new(er) installation, or has it been in for awhile?

Can you get an ammeter on it and take a reading on the the hot side(s) of the input power? How does that compare to the rated input?

Breaker

Try replacing the breaker on the wall with a C type breaker. If it already has one then it may have got weak.

More info
by: Carl

Hi
You need to provide more info please, is there pressure going to the tank? What does it read in the display? Can you hear it going from star to delta (make 2 noises after you press the start button) as it is a full feature (FF) is the dryer frozen?

Configure GA-18 auto restart after power loss ?

by Justin
(Atlanta)

ANyone know how to activate this feature?

the manual says its available, but deactivated by default, the manual states "call Atlas Copco for instructions"and Atlas refuses to tell us how to activate this, anyone know?

This unit is at a site that's 4 hours away, and we're having to drive 4 hours each way to press the start button after every thunderstorm.

Atlas

They don't give out the passwords very easily but you are entitled to have the password because of a recent ruling.

Please be careful with some of the settings when you enter the password though, it is possible to accidentally change a few things that can effect your compressors behaviour including making it go over pressure which can be dangerous, this is why they don't like you to have the passwords.

Most compressor companies are the same not just Atlas. If you do buy another compressor at some point though I can suggest HPC (Kaeser) they are much more user friendly, more expensive, but an altogether much better machine.

Anyway, I'm glad you have sorted your problem out
