For what purpose air compressor is being used in hydro power plant?

HELLO,
I am selected in ALSTOM project india ltd,
so here i m working on compressed air system package.
i want to know the use of air compressor in power plant(hydro).

Hello Amit;

Why indeed would they have an air compressor in a hydro generating plant?

Compressed air is an energy source. Coupled with the right actuator, a compressed air system can deliver massive force very quickly.

While I don't know for sure all of the uses of compressed air in a hydro plant, I can surmise that they are using compressed air to actuate large devices...switches perhaps, that require the force and speed that's available from an air cylinder.

used for cleaning, used on mechanical seals for pumps,to aggitate treated water

It is also used for Control valves,The compressors are usually oil free type high CFM and should have very large resevoirs attached to the system.
