Filter for cleaning photographic slides

by Mike

I have a need for using compressed air to remove dust on 35mm slides. What size/type filter should I use or should I just stick to cans of "Dust Off"? BTW I have a Porta Cable pancake (oiless) compressor. Thank you.

Hey Mike. Nice to hear from you.

It were me, I'd be sure to have a general purpose filter upstream from my blowgun and, I'd be darn sure to have a regulator in the line to lower the pressure through the blowgun as low as possible and still blow off the dust.

In the short bursts you'll need, you shouldn't have to install any kind of dryer, but watch your slides if you use a lot of air, as you may get the odd water spot, particularly if it's humid.

Start dusting at a couple of PSI and crank the regulator up slowly until you are getting the blow-off you need.

If water problems develop, install a small in-line desiccant dryer.

Cheers, and thank you both for visiting, and for writing in.
