Exhaust reed valves for small DeVibliss, CH, Craftsman oil less compressor

exhaust reed valves

My three reed exhaust valves snapped off their mount and I need to replace the exhaust reed valve part which is held to the valve plate by a tiny machine screw. I really don't want to have to buy an entire new valve plate assembly for close to $50.

A current part number for the entire valve plate is
#Z-AC-0032, also KK-5040 also fits lots of Craftsman compressors.

A pic is attached below and the three reed exhaust valves are surrounded by the O ring

Great pic, Jim. Thanks.

You can really see the fragile nature of the reed valves, and the "O" ring is one of the gaskets that sometimes fail as well.

I've not done it, but heard that you can cut new valves out of feeler gauge type shim stock.

Your request is posted. I hope someone has spares for you.

Cheers,

Bill

the home modified reeds failed
by: Jim

Well my home modified reeds failed to hold up to the heat in the exhaust position. They didn't break but would only allow the compressor to get to about 90 psi, after that no additional pressure.
So I had to buy a new "valve plate" for $30 just to get my exhaust reeds replaced.........what a racket.

The journey continues. Good luck.

made my own
by: Jim

So not having any luck finding a replacement exhaust reed I decided to get creative. I had an old valve plate that only had the intake reeds left on it. So I took them off, traced out the old exhaust reed on the old intake reed and then cut out a replacement exhaust reed. Not very pretty but it is working.........at least for now.

But I would still like to find a real exhaust reed.

feeler gauge stock
by: Jim

Well I looked online and there were a lot of listings for "feeler gauge stock" but they were all pre-cut in narrow strips

where
by: Jim

Bill,

Wondering where someone would find feeler gauge stock? I would be game as I like a challenge. But I hate the idea that I have to buy and entire valve plate to get one set of flappers ;^(

_______________

Auto parts stores are the most likely source. Good luck.
