Engine revs very high No Air

by Ken

I have an Ingersoll tow behind compressor with a 4-cylinder gas engine.

It was working great then the engine started running really high and I now I have no air pressure that will build up.

It's still starts right up but only at an extreme high RPM. Any thoughts would be great.

Yeah, some of this stuff ain't cheap.

Too bad making one isn't as easy as making a gasket!

I got it, thanks!

Thanks guys. The coupling is bad. It was made out of a fiberglass material and some teeth were sheared off. It looks like a flywheel and is between the screw and the diesel motor. Replacement parts are 741 for the coupling and 240 for the seal kit. That's a 1000 bucks only for parts.

Coupling.

Sounds like a drive coupling failed.

Still be nice to know make and model.

Is the screw turning?

Some have a rubber coupler, which can break.

Is the intake valve opening?

High RPM and no air pressure
by: Dean

The same problem. I have a diesel air compressor or that runs a Sullivan screw compressor when I crank it runs at very high rpm's but there's no air coming out. it leaked some hydraulic oil and I guess it went to low no I have filled it up to the right level but it still will not make any air .
