emglo air compressor squeaking

Our used emglo compressor is making a squeaking sound only during the time it is actually compressing the air.

It runs fine till it needs to pump.

The sound has been getting worse.

We checked all the fluid levels which are fine. Is there somewhere else that we should be lubricating which is not obvious? It is older, the model says: KU.

Wish we could arrange to have a sound file uploaded so I could hear the problem.

"Squeaking" is a non specific term. Is it a continuous (one note) squeal, is it chirping in short bursts, what type of noise is it?

Is there any other effect on the Emglo compressor performance?

You can try contacting Emglo (www.emglo.com) too.

Cheers,

Bill

And continues to run, with the pressure staying at 40 PSI in the tank.... yes?

Go to the Troubleshooting page, and read the info on 'compressor will not build pressure'.

After that, any more questions, please add them as a comment here.

Cheers,

Bill

emglo compressor 4 gallon kicks the breaker

Emglo hot dog air compressor

Emglo hot dog air compressor

builds up pressure suts off but when it tries to start back up it hums then kicks the breaker

David, there are many things that could cause this compressor problem.

The first that comes to mind is that the motor is trying to pull too many amps on startup, and that is what's popping the breaker.

Drain the air from the tank, start the compressor, and monitor the unloader valve when the tank pressure reaches cut out, and the compressor stops, and ensure that the unloader valve works.

Did id? Post a response here as a comment, please.

What model is my Emglo compressor pump?

by Dave
(Latrobe, PA)

1978 Emglo compressor pump

1978 Emglo compressor pump

I have a 1978 Emglo compressor pump that I do not know what model it is.

Someone stole the tag from the unit, but the tag on the air tank has Emglo on it and the date of 1978.

The tank was manufactured in Johnstown, PA. It has the numbers 6430714 and 2 23 70 on the cylinder and 38454 on the crank case.

I will attach a picture.

It has two intercooler lines. The fly wheel pulley has places for 3 belts and is 18" diameter. The pump is 22" from base to top. It has a centrifugal unloader.

I need to know all the specs of this pump. I dont know what motor to buy or the pulley size i need.

I would also like to replace some parts. Thanks for any information you can give me.

This is a picture after I cleaned up the pump and tank and starting to assemble it. I'm going to try to post a pic, but I'm new to this site so here we go.

Sorry Dave, once a thread gets going the system won't allow an image upload. All one can do is start a new thread, and at that time, you can add up to 4 photos.

If you already have such a motor, it's worth a try, if you can find a 2 3/4 inch pulley.

You may have an issue with belt slippage, though.

Thanks for your help. The 331 parts diagram on master tool looks exactly like it. Do you know if I could run a higher rpm motor (5 hp 3600 rpm 19.6 amps) with a smaller pulley to get the right rpm for the pump?

I'd try a parts place like master tool, that has emglo parts. They may have an old-timer that recognises the thing, assuming no one else responds here.

Good luck...
