wiring power

Well, a HP is 746 watts, call it 750, or At 120V, that's 3750 watts or 31.25 Amps. Impractical.

So, it's no doubt set up for 220V, which is a bit over 17 Amps.

So a 220v 20 or 25A ganged (double pole) breaker should do fine.

The wire gauge depends on the run length. For less than 20 feet or so, you can probably get away with 12 or even 14 gage wire. Much longer that that should be at least 12 or better, 10 gage. You should check with your local building codes - they can advise the minimum wire size for the run you require.

You need to have some sort of disconnect near the equipment, no matter how long the run is. This serves as both a junction box and service disconnect for maintenance or emergency use.
