Alfred, sorry to hear about this issue with HF. The gasket material should, I think, be high heat resistant, and the only source I can think of would be an automotive specialty parts store. They may be able to sell you a sheet of gasket material that you can use to cut out your own.

Anyone else have some tips?

Compressor motor smokes and will not start?

Central Pneumatic elec. motor smokes and will not start

central pneumatic elec. air compressor rau for awhile then elec. motor stopped and when reset button is reset motor smokes and will not start? I'm thinking that I need to replace the 2 starter capacitors, but I'm not sure.

It might be the capacitors, but I am not certain of that. If the capacitors were out of commission, your motor would try to start, pull too many amps, and probably pop a breaker, not cause the engine to smoke.

Since you are not saying that a breaker or fuse is failing, I tend to think it is the motor itself that is at fault.

Unless, the motor is trying to turn the pump, but it has seized, and your motor is overheating as a result. Is that the case?

Cheers,

Bill

Hey Shelly. I'll try, and I hope so will some of the very knowledgeable and helpful folks that visit this compressed air website.

First, make sure that there aren't other electricity using devices running or starting on the same circuit as the air compressor. If there are, shut them off, and see if this makes a change.

When you are turning the air compressor on, what is the pressure in the tank? If there is pressure in the tank, open the drain valve to let it drop to zero pressure, close the valve, and then turn it on again? Any change?

If it starts OK, you may have an unloader valve issue. See UNLOADER VALVE linked from the VALVE PAGE.

If it still doesn't start, and still just hums, then the next thing to check is the capacitor, and that, unless you know how to check it, needs you to take the motor and capacitor to an electric motor rebuild shop to test both.

This may cost you more money than you paid for the compressor, depending on who you know and where you take it to get it fixed.

Good luck.

Bill

Harbor Freight sells Central Pneumatic air compressors. You could call and ask them where they get their air compressors fixed under warranty, and then talk to those folks about getting spare parts.

Unfortunately, the model 68064 does not show up as a current compressor model from them, so they may not be much help.

You do not indicate your source for the compressor. If it was not Harbor Freight, get those folks you got the compressor from to source the compressor oil pump for you.

Sorry I don't have more info for you Jesus. Anyone else?

Bill

Pump oil not Oil pump
by: Anonymous

I had to look at this one twice when I read it in the owners manual it actually says to replace the pump oil (the oil in the pump) and not the oil pump.
