Does a rotary vane compressor cycle?

by Matt

I found a used a rotary vane compressor, and I was wondering if it cycles. I saw there was a pressure switch, and was wondering if it runs all the time like a rotary screw and just runs unloaded when the pressure is high enough or does it cycle like a piston compressor, and only runs when there is demand?

As Bill said, could be either way.

If you're worried about the power from a continuous one, you could wire the pressure switch to a magnetic starter (relay) and use that to make it cycle, if that's what you want.

Cycling of Rotary Vane air compressor

Some do and some don't, Matt.

Not knowing the make or model of the air compressor you refer to makes it impossible for me to try and find a specific answer.
