Dodgy Motor?

I have this compressor

http://www.supercheapauto.co.nz/Product/Blackridge-Air-Compressor-Belt-Drive-2-5HP-155LPM/296172

which is probably a copy of something. It's 2.5HP and I'm running 240v straight into a 15A socket.

I had issues with it popping the fuse so I rang the store and got it tested and they said it was fine.

Eventually it kept happening more consistently but the store didn't want to know. I have tested the two capacitors so I'm wondering if it is a dodgy motor?

Is there anything I can test?

I took the belt off to make sure it wasn't seized and the motor ran the first time, but the second time it still popped the 20A fuse. I don't want to have to get another one as I liked the specs on this one. Any suggestions?

Cheers in advance!

Sounds like it.

Let's clarify a couple of things: 15 or 20A socket?
(although even a 10 should be big enough)

Do you have the yellow or the red version?

There is a centrifugal switch on the motor shaft that sounds like it may be sticking. It should be behind the motor cover.

If that's not the problem, I hope it's still on warranty - which says if it's defective, they pay shipping.

Good luck.
