Different flow rates between fittings.

I have always run 1/4 inch fittings, its what my compressor came with and recommended be used.


But as I've gotten bigger and more powerful air tools that require more CFM, I'm wondering if how much more bigger ones flow?

Currently I have a compressor that flows 5.3 CFM at 90 psi. It came with a 1/4 inch fitting, and the impact I have says it requires 6 CFM.

Now, I know this is more that the compressor, but it doesn't seem to even have half the power it should, would going to 3/8 inch fittings help the flow rate?

If so, by how much? (I.e, whats the difference in flow from 1/4 inch to 3/8)
