Dewalt D55146 used air compressor

Hi everyone, I just recently bought a used Dewalt air compressor and I am fairly new to using them.

The problem I have is that when I turn on the compressor the regulated pressure spikes to around 215 or so, gauge only goes to 200.

I try to adjust it down and I can hear air leaking out of the pressure valve and at the same time the tank pressure will not go above 155 or so.

At least I have not let it because the other pressure gauge read 215. Any ideas or suggestions you may have would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Matt

Matt, if the tank pressure is 155 PSI, then it's unlikely that the pressure at the regulator is 215. Your regulator cannot increase pressure, it can only reduce pressure below what ever the supply pressure is.

If it were me with your problem, I'd spend the $10 or so and replace the gauge on the regulator. That may be all the problem is.

If that doesn't solve the problem then the regulator might be failing but, I say again, if the supply pressure to the regulator is 155 PSI, which is what the tank pressure is, the regulator cannot be either experiencing or setting the downstream pressure to 215 PSI.

Cheers,

Bill

older dewalt ( emglo/jenny) dual power 8 gal...unit is blowing breaker @ about 15 psi. starting good, running good before ciruit goes.

just replaced run capasitor and unit ran normal in the shop for a couple weeks. I went away for 2 weeks and forgot to shut it off. there aren't any leaks in the hoses so i can't imagine it ran much. When i got back and needed some air, thats when i noticed the problem. Oil gd, warm in shop, how do i do a load test and what is causing the unit to draw to much many amps??
Thanks much,
Tom
