This is a two cylinder one phase 5 hp 60 gallon older Devilbiss unit. I just rebuilt it after it broke a rod. New cylinders, rods, bearings valves o rings. It sounds great but won't get past 40 psi. Took it apart again to look everything over. Can't see anything obviously wrong. The model is paftv560v. HELP!

What's wrong with Devilbiss compressor
by: Bill

Yikes, Tom. I'm hard pressed to point at any one thing now.

Is it possible... just possible, that the valve plate is in backwards, upside down or reversed?

Failing that, one of our stalwart regular visitors may be able to offer a suggestion or two... I hope!

This unit doesn't have gaskets as such but uses o rings.

All the valves and o rings are new as are the cylinder sleeves, pistons rods bearings and rings.

The 240 volt outlet is only 6' from the panel.

This compressor has been used almost daily in my flute business for several years.

The pressure switch is new. The tank and motor seem pristine. I took it apart again today for the fourth time and looked everything over trying to think what is there to go wrong? I am certainly missing something. But what?

The valve cover bolts threaded into the crank case are stripping out so I got new bolts 1/2" longer and fastened with nuts inside the case. I am following all the torque specs. I hate to part with this unit now that most everything is new or otherwise in good shape.

paftv560v won't build pressure

Offhand, I'd guess that you have a bad gasket, or a bad valve.

Why not pop over to the troubleshooting pages and read up on the one that talks about air compressors that run but don't build pressure.

Then, add a comment here with what you found.
