looking to find the typical db of a 20 gallon sanborn. They are one of the few that do not list a db rating. I don't need another loud compressor

Sound rating of a 20 gallon sanborn

I tried finding this info too, with no luck.

Since many of the big box store compressors, although with different colors and shapes, are likely made by the same factory in China, this leads me to believe that most lower cost compressors are comparable in sound levels.

In simple terms, they are loud!

You can attenuate the sound by putting a barrier around it. There's information about that on this site.

You can acquire almost silent air compressors yet the price goes up substantially.

You can have a .5 HP motor and compressors pump on a 20 gallon tank, or a 5 HP motor and compressor pump on a 20 gallon tank, so you don't want to compare the tank size for sound levels, but rather the pump motor and HP size. Tank size has virtually no affect on compressor sound except for a bearing on how frequently the air compressor cycles.
