Dayton Automactic Drain 2Z166

I bought a used compressor & it had an automatic drain valve Dayton 2Z166. I was puzzled by the way it was installed, on the SIDE of the tank. I did internet investigation & I could not find any manuals or paperwork of any kind to my surprise. I would think it should be plumbed from the bottom of the tank to the valve. I read an article where the the exit pipe should be teed to the pressure relief pipe. Now just in stalled to the bottom of the tank, every so often the valve opens then closes. Any ideas? Thanks, Dennis

I don't have any personal experience with them Dennis, though I'm sure a reader will post a response that has used them.

If it's not working, can you not just remove it and plumb in a manual valve that you open to drain the tank when you are done working?

Or, plumb in an electric auto drain that will open for a few seconds at the frequency that suits, and don't bother trying to replace a part that you cannot locate.

Cheers,

Bill
