craftsman upright 33gal. 6hp air compressor won't build pressure

my compressor starts and will build pressure until about75 psi and then just keeps running without building anymore pressure. The pressure seems to build slowly. There is no air escaping that I can hear. no burning smell. there are 2 guages. one allows you to crank the pressure up, but i turn it all the way up and no more than 75psi. the unit is only about 3-4 years old with only occasional use.

Hi Dave. This is a fairly common problem with DIY type air compressors, and one I've written about extensively.
