Craftsman compressor motor runs quiet and then trips breaker
I have a Craftsman 20 gal. oil less compressor.
It will start and run for about 15 seconds and then throw the breaker .
nothing else is on the line and it's been working fine in the same location for a year.
When it starts the motor is much quieter than normal but looks to be running fine .
Don't know if it's relevant but after it shuts down if I turn the power switch to the off
position there is air bleeding from the pressure switch area .
Dave, on my compressor I can't hear the electric motor running while the compressor is running. What I hear is the compressor pump.
Are you hearing a quieter motor, or a quieter pump.
Good that you have clean power to the compressor. That is often a culprit.
When it runs for the 15 seconds, is pressure rising in the tank? If so, it would lead me to think that you have a compressor motor capacitor issue. If no pressure visibly rising, might be a pump issue.
As to the leak out of the pressure switch area, it's likely your unloader valve that is leaking air, and that is happening because your check valve is probably not seating correctly. Pages of info on both are linked from the site map.

Air in the tank but not making it to the quick connect.
New Craftsman 33 Gal. 1.6hp vertical air compressor.
Followed the initial start up instructions.
then shut the tried to use the compressor.
The tank fills, there are no leaks but when I attach a hose or tools nothing happens. It feels like the air is"nt making it to the quick connectors.
