Craftsman 60 gal won't build more than 40 psi

I have 60 gal Craftsman compressor with 6.5 hp motor. It runs fine but the pressure will not build past 40 psi. No leaks anywhere. I did notice that there was a difference in the exhaust mufflers from one side to the other. If I rebuild the pistons/gaskets/sleeves will this fix the problem?

Geoff, rebuilding the pistons/gaskets/sleeves might resolve the problem.

Or, it might be as simple as a leaking intake valve or a gasket failure.
