Craftsman 3hp 12 gallon air compressor

Craftsman 3hp 12 gallon air compressor

It claims 8.5 CFM at 40PSI and 7.7 cfm at 90 psi.... find that hard to believe - I just picked it up last night...

it seems to cut out at 90 PSI, is that adjustable somehow? -

Thanks,

Do you believe the mileage claims of the car manufacturer's? I don't. Nor do I believe the output claims of air compressors, Rob.

Though you can generally expect to get around 4 CFM of compressed air flow at 90 PSI for each HP of air compressor motor, if the compressor is being powered by a 120 VAC circuit as I believe this one is, no way can it be a true 3 HP, therefore, no way it can actually deliver the promised air flow, in my opinion.

You need to determine if the pressure switch is turning off at 90 PSI and shutting down the compressor, or, is the pressure switch still passing current, but the compressor shuts off for another reason.

If the pressure switch is off, it's a suggestion that the pressure switch itself is pooched.

See the pages on pressure switches on this site for more info about them.
